Jiangsu launches multi-pronged efforts to cultivate high-caliber foreign-related legal talent

From Aug 18 to 21, the Office of the Commission for Overall Law-based Governance of the Communist Party of China Jiangsu Provincial Committee, together with the provincial departments of education, justice, and commerce, jointly held a legal practice session on foreign-related legal talent cultivation in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province.

The session marked a key step in implementing the province's work plan to strengthen the cultivation of foreign-related legal professionals. By developing a practice-oriented cultivation mechanism, deepening collaboration between law schools and legal authorities, and further advancing the development of collaborative training bases, Jiangsu aims to accelerate the cultivation of high-caliber professionals with solid expertise in foreign-related legal practice. This will provide strong talent support for building the province into a major gateway for two-way opening-up, drawing in global resources and helping local enterprises go global.

The session consisted of four modules: panel discussions, mock arbitration, field visits, and hands-on practice. During the panel discussions, mentors, teachers, and students from the training bases exchanged ideas with representatives from foreign-oriented enterprises, focusing on thorny issues confronting companies going global, such as the resolution of foreign-related commercial disputes and overseas intellectual property layout.

Students from partner universities gained first-hand experience of the workflows of foreign-related arbitration. They also went on study tours to the International Intellectual Property Service Platform, the Yangtze River Delta Overseas Investment Promotion Service Center, and the Suzhou International Legal Services District, and completed hands-on practice at law firms and foreign-oriented enterprises.

Teachers, students, and mentors from seven national and provincial-level collaborative training bases for foreign-related legal talent took part in the event, including those from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Hohai University, Soochow University, and Jiangsu Normal University.

Officials from related departments and institutes, as partners of the training bases, also attended the session, including those from the Provincial Higher People's Court, the Provincial People's Procuratorate, the Provincial Public Security Department, the Provincial Department of Justice, the Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, the Provincial Intellectual Property Administration, the Provincial Law Society, the Provincial Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and the Provincial Lawyers Association.
