China's Minister of Justice He Rong attended the 15th United Nations (UN) Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice via video link on Sept 26 and delivered a speech during its high-level segment.
He Rong said that under the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, China has achieved historic progress in advancing the rule of law and is accelerating the building of a socialist country under the rule of law at a higher level.
She said that China stands ready to work with all parties to implement the four major global initiatives the country has proposed, and contribute to crime prevention and crackdown, improving global governance and advancing the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
To this end, she put forward a three-point proposal.
First, she stressed the need to practice multilateralism, uphold the international rule of law, better leverage platforms such as the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and advance the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Second, she urged adopting an action-oriented approach, improving the international crime-fighting network, jointly cracking down on transnational organized crime, and effectively addressing emerging technology-related crimes.
Third, she called for deepening solidarity and cooperation, fully taking into account the needs of developing countries in areas such as capacity building and technical assistance, strengthening pragmatic cooperation in the rule of law, and safeguarding international fairness and justice.
The UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice is held every five years. This year's congress is taking place in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, from Sept 26 to Oct 1.
