As a 26-year veteran in studying and applying forensic science, Shen Xiaolin has, so far, helped people with his expertise in nearly 10,000 cases as the head of a forensic science service center in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu province, earning himself a range of titles and, more importantly, the trust and respect of the people.
Over the past 12 years, Shen, a competent administrator, succeeded in turning his center into a comprehensive institution featuring strong technical support, sound management and reliable results, making it a template in Nanjing and the whole province.
Answering the requirement of the province's judicial authority for a province-wide coverage of judicial administrative services, Shen and his team actively work in remote areas on a regular basis, trying their best to satisfy the needs of local residents and courts.
In the meantime, they help financially strapped people by cutting hundreds of thousands of yuan in service fees annually, playing an important role in resolving disputes and maintaining social stability.
In an effort to encourage innovation in forensic science services, Shen took various steps including developing incentive mechanisms for his team, purchasing advanced devices, and initiating exchange and cooperation between his team and other research teams.
As a fruitful researcher in his field, Shen has published dozens of academic articles with great influence and participated in the compilation of several textbooks.
He also advocates for stronger protection for forensic science professionals as well as effective linkage between the forensic science service and the people's mediation system in hope of further improving mediation across the country.
