Since its launch in early September, 2016, Beijing's 12348 Platform, the capital city's comprehensive legal consulting platform, has been playing an increasingly important role in addressing people's legal concerns.

Data show that over the past four years, nearly 1,000 lawyers from over 100 law firms worked in shifts on the platform to advise roughly 1.1 million people, gaining a satisfaction rate of 97 percent.

To satisfy people's growing demand for legal consultations, the platform has increased the number of participating lawyers in its hotline section and doubled its internet bandwidth since 2019.

To ensure service quality, the platform appointed full-time supervisors who are responsible for dealing with complaints and suggestions from the public.

Faced with the COVID-19 outbreak, the platform cancelled weekend and holiday breaks to ensure eight-hour service every day.

So far this year, the platform has run for over 220 consecutive days or more than 27,000 hours, a 48 percent increase compared with the same period last year. A total of 8,408 people were advised during this period.

Apart from providing legal advice, the platform has also held 13 online lectures to guide medium and small businesses on work resumption.

After being listed as one of the municipal government's major projects for people's livelihoods in 2020, the platform will be upgraded to include other public legal services such as notarizations, judicial authentication and legal aid.
