Legal aid in Ningxia contributes to recovery of people’s economic losses

After failing to receive the full salary he deserved from his previous employer, Li, a former employee of a photo studio in Xiji county, Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, decided to seek help from the local legal aid center.

After confirming that Li, who worked for the studio from March to November last year, only received his salary for November, the center promptly designated a lawyer to help him apply for labor arbitration.

The case ended in a complete victory for Li as the arbitration committee ordered the studio to pay him his full salary in arrears as well as commission and overtime pay. "Legal aid helped me a lot," said Li, with satisfaction.

During the first half of 2021, legal aid agencies across Ningxia handled 9,104 cases in total, helping applicants recover over 93.89 million yuan ($14.5 million) in economic losses. In particular, they handled 17 cases transferred from 12348.com, China's official legal service portal, helping 72 migrant workers in Ningxia address their remuneration issues.
