Legal work and support provided by Beijing's judicial authorities have greatly aided the success of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

Since Beijing won the bid in 2016 to host the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, the city has made 12 pieces of laws and reviewed over 20 regulations on areas such as volunteer services, environmental governance, advertising and accessibility, all closely related to the Games.

For instance, it has revised a regulation aimed at promoting volunteer services and protecting volunteers’ rights, allowing the organizers of major events like the Olympics to directly recruit volunteers instead of going through a separate agency. During the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, nearly 19,000 volunteers contributed their services to the sporting event and over 200,000 city volunteers provided their services across Beijing.

For the people with disabilities in Beijing, the regulation on barrier-free environment has brought many changes to them. For example, more than 26,000 sections of tactile paving for those with vision impairment have been restored; 51 websites and 26 apps have been updated, passing a national test for being elderly-friendly and more accessible; and 59 stair climbers and 142 wheelchair platforms have been upgraded at a number of subway stations.

Besides, the enactment and revision of several regulations concerning blood donation, public health and medical emergencies have also contributed to the smooth running of the Games, and offered more effective legal guarantee for Beijing's post-Olympic development.
