Growth rate of lawyer numbers in Guizhou leads western China

Southwest China's Guizhou province has taken measures to deepen its lawyer system reform and comprehensively optimize the environment for lawyer practice, in a bid to promote the high-quality development of the lawyer team construction.

Over the past five years, the province has seen over 1,300 new lawyers on a yearly basis. By the end of 2022, the ratio of lawyers per 10,000 residents in the province had reached 3.7.

The province has also encouraged large law firms and their lawyers to practice in Guizhou's counties with inadequate lawyer resources, and supported local authorities in introducing preferential policies for the lawyer industry development. 

With the joint efforts of relevant authorities, a series of institutional documents have been issued to effectively protect lawyers' rights to practice.

To date, Guizhou has a total of 14,900 lawyers. The province has a total of 1,150 law firms, with each county, city and district has at least two law firms, which plays an active role in promoting the province's law-based governance, serving high-quality economic and social development, as well as responding to urgent, difficult and dangerous tasks.
