Fujian lawyers take active role in improving public legal service system

In recent years, the Lawyers Association of Fujian Province has upheld the people-centered development philosophy and played an active role in building a public legal service system, with the aim of improving efficient governance at the grassroots level and safeguarding people's life with the rule of law.

According to statistics, a total of 2,432 lawyers in Fujian served as legal advisers in villages and communities and established 10,553 WeChat groups in 2022. Through a variety of online and offline platforms, 10,871 villages and 2,441 communities were provided with legal services, which has been well received by the public.

Measures have been taken to advance the province's joint mediation system involving both lawyers and police officers for dispute resolutions. In 2022, 3,359 lawyers in Fujian participated in the reception of public complaints and handled 4,390 cases. The lawyers mediation studio at people's courts mediated 4,438 cases, while those established at lawyers associations and law firms mediated 1,169 cases, which resolved disputes at early stage.

In order to protect parties' legitimate rights and interests, the lawyers association has intensified efforts to develop pool of lawyers at all levels eligible for legal aid, and has organized lawyers to provide legal aid services in various forms.

In 2022, lawyers in the province handled a total of 43,036 legal aid cases of all kinds and provided 43,332 free legal services for the groups with difficulties.
