On May 31, the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) announced 295 notary institutions authorized to conduct overseas remote video notarizations in collaboration with overseas embassies and consulates, providing notarial services for Chinese citizens living abroad.

This is a significant measure taken by the MOJ to promote notary institutions to do practical things for the people.

Based on the pilot program, the MOJ newly added 202 notary institutions to further facilitate overseas remote notarization in collaboration with the MFA.

A circular released by the MOJ recently requires local judicial administrative authorities to attach great importance to the matter and guide and supervise relevant notary institutions to handle notarization cases through remote videos, in accordance with the Notarization Law of the People's Republic of China and the rule for notarization procedures.

Meanwhile, local administrative authorities should strengthen their coordination and exchanges with Chinese embassies and consulates overseas and local departments for foreign affairs, and work together to address problems, so as to effectively provide remote overseas video notarial services in an orderly manner.
