Vice-Minister of Justice Zhao Changhua meets with a delegation led by Victor Dawes, chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association, in Beijing on Dec 18.

Zhao said the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) has thoroughly implemented the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee on promoting the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Zhao said the MOJ has made efforts to continuously enhance policies on legal services opening to Hong Kong and Macao, and deepen cooperation with the HKBA on legal services and talent cultivation, with concrete outcomes achieved.

Zhao said he hoped that the HKBA would leverage the unique strengths of Hong Kong's common law system in connecting China and the world, and proactively identify, respond to and steer changes. By integrating into the country's overall development, the HKBA can achieve better development and make unique contributions to the development of the country's foreign-related rule of law as well as the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, he added.

Dawes said the HKBA will continue to encourage barristers to maximize their strengths, proactively integrate into the country's overall development, and contribute to the development of the GBA and the country's foreign-related rule of law.
