International meeting on crime and criminal justice statistics held in Chengdu

The third Regional Meeting on Crime and Criminal Justice Statistics was held in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, on Oct 28.

With the theme of "towards modern and efficient crime statistics systems", participants of the meeting focused their discussions on such issues as the systems and practices regarding the compilation of crime and criminal justice data, the latest progress in the crime and criminal justice statistics in the Asia-Pacific Region and current goals.

The three-day meeting, jointly hosted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Ministry of Justice of China, was attended by officials from the UN and 16 countries including Pakistan, Thailand and South Korea.

Officials from the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the National Bureau of Statistics as well as experts from several Chinese universities also took part in the meeting.
