Birthplace of CPC attracts more young visitors

BEIJING -- An increasing number of young visitors have been attracted to the site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and its memorial in Shanghai, China Daily reported Monday.

The average age of representatives participating in CPC's first national congress was 28, said Yang Yu, an associate research fellow at the memorial. Yang added that people of the same age group are showing more interests in the history of CPC nowadays.

The site, known as Shikumen, is a typical Shanghai house with a courtyard and stone-framed gates. Now it has retained its original look and become a landmark of the city's Red history, Yang said.

Before 2017, the site received an average of 500,000 to 550,000 visitors per year, but the figure surged to 1.42 million in 2018 and 1.46 million in 2019, according to data from the site.

The site and the memorial will be opened to the public before July 1 after five months' renovation, according to venue officials.
