Vice-Minister of Justice Xiong Xuanguo called for an overall promotion of "smart rule of law" by increasing technological application to the initiative on July 27.

Xiong, also a member of the ministry's Leading Party Members' Group, made the remarks when delivering a speech at a summit on promoting technology-facilitated rule of law. The summit was part of an exhibition of smart technologies and equipment used in the political and legal field.

He pointed out that since the 18th CPC National Congress held in 2012, the ministry has made significant progress in integrating information technologies into the promotion of rule of law.

He highlighted the ministry's effort in building big data-based platforms and systems for its four major functions of administrative legislation, administrative law enforcement, enforcement of criminal punishment and provision of public legal services.

He pressed for greater application of date-intensive information technologies so as to advance high-quality development of technology-facilitated rule of law.
