The judicial department of Southwest China's Guizhou province recently held a meeting to welcome the arrival of 15 lawyers as volunteers under this year's national "1+1" legal aid volunteering campaign.

During the meeting, the department granted letters of appointment to the volunteers, and requested related authorities to provide them with care and support including funding.

Since the campaign, which features the dispatch of lawyers, university students and primary-level legal service workers as legal aid volunteers to China's lawyer-less county-level areas, was launched 12 years ago, the department has dispatched 159 volunteers to over 40 counties across the province.

As one of the main battlefields of China's poverty eradication campaign, Guizhou succeeded in lifting 9.23 million people in 66 registered impoverished counties out of poverty in 2020.
