A ceremony marking the founding of the Haikou center of the Belt and Road Initiative Lawyers Association (BRILA) was held on Dec 21 in Haikou, capital of South China's Hainan province.
Vice-Minister of Justice Xiong Xuanguo addressed the event via video link.
Xiong pointed out that the BRILA is an international organization for lawyers which was initiated by the Chinese side and registered in China. Its objective is to support Belt and Road construction with high-quality and efficient legal services.
He said establishing the Haikou center is an important step in coordinating the promotion of the rule of law in China and in matters involving foreign parties. The move is of great importance to giving play to the role of the rule of law in consolidating the foundation, stabilizing expectations and bringing long-term benefits, propelling the construction of a law-based business environment in the Hainan Free Trade Port, and deepening the province's engagement in Belt and Road construction, he added.
He said the BRILA must contribute its wisdom and strength to the development of economic globalization towards more openness, inclusiveness, balance and win-win outcomes.
