He Rong noted that, under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) has focused on the rule of law to serve the overall work of the Party and the country and been committed to promoting Chinese modernization in a law-based manner.

The Hong Kong judiciary assumes important responsibilities and plays a significant role in the development of the rule of law in the region, according to the minister.

She expressed the hope that Hong Kong judges will improve their understanding and recognition of the country's achievements in the rule of law, and continue to fulfill their missions and tasks in safeguarding the country's sovereignty, security and development interests, as well as in maintaining Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability.

She underlined that the MOJ has thoroughly implemented the decisions and plans made by the central government regarding the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and has promoted the opening of legal services to Hong Kong in a steady manner.

The ministry has introduced relevant policies and measures, such as the pilot program for Hong Kong and Macao lawyers to practice in the GBA, and has consistently established new approaches and mechanisms to enhance exchanges and cooperation within the legal profession between the mainland and Hong Kong. These measures help judicial and legal circles in Hong Kong better integrate into the country's overall development.

Cheung expressed his appreciation for the MOJ's support for Hong Kong's judicial and legal circles, and said that he looks forward to further strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the HKSAR judiciary and the MOJ, to jointly facilitate the construction of the GBA.

The Court of Final Appeal will continue to safeguard the constitutional order of Hong Hong as determined by the country's Constitution and the Basic Law of the HKSAR in accordance with the law, and promote the long-term prosperity and stability of the region on a legal footing.

The two sides also exchanged views on various issues, including maintaining national security in accordance with the law, supporting Hong Kong in integrating into the country's overall development, promoting the GBA's construction, as well as the cultivation of legal talents.

Vice-Minister of Justice Zuo Li and Chief Judge of the High Court of Hong Kong Jeremy Poon Shiu-chor also attended the meeting.
