Meeting of SCO Ministers of Justice held in Shanghai

SHANGHAI -- The 10th Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Ministers of Justice opened Tuesday in Shanghai.

Chen Wenqing, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony and read President Xi Jinping's congratulatory letter to the meeting before delivering a speech.

Chen said Xi's letter showed that China attaches great importance to its exchanges and cooperation with fellow SCO member states in legal and judicial administration, demonstrated China's determination to exercise law-based governance on all fronts, and pointed out the direction for further exchanges and cooperation among the member states.

China will resolutely improve the socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics, help advance the reform of the global governance system, and build a modern socialist country in all respects under the rule of law, Chen said.

Chen Jining, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, also attended the ceremony and made a speech.
