The Justice Bureau of Beijing and the Beijing Lawyers Association (BLA) jointly hosted an open day event recently to showcase the vivid practice of lawyers and law firms based in China's capital in providing public legal services.
With over 54,000 practicing lawyers, Beijing's legal industry remains at the forefront nationwide, supporting the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, providing legal guarantees for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, and promoting effective optimization of the business environment as well as coordinated development of legal services in the eastern, central and western regions.
Lawyers in Beijing have also actively engaged in legislation and law revision, contributing to the advancement of overall law-based governance.
Upholding the principle of serving the people through the rule of law, they have handled more than 30,000 legal aid cases annually on average in the past five years, and have been on duty to provide public legal services through the 12348 hotline.
They also serve as legal counselors in villages and communities, creating a new pattern for diversified dispute resolution.
The team of lawyers providing foreign-related legal services in Beijing has also been continuously expanding. Over 1,300 lawyers have been included in the talent pool established by the BLA for foreign-related legal services.
The BLA has issued a research report on Beijing law firms going global, completed legal risk assessment reports for nine countries, and compiled two volumes of outstanding cases of foreign-related legal services, in a bid to provide legal guarantees for the capital's development and opening-up.
