Vice-minister of justice attends 13th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum

From May 19 to 21, the 13th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum was held in St. Petersburg, Russia, under the theme of "The Law: Lessons of the Past for World of the Future". China's Vice-Minister of Justice Hu Weilie led a delegation to the forum and delivered a speech at a thematic session on "Innovative Models of Penal Institutions".

In his address, Hu highlighted China's recent achievements in prison management, offender education and rehabilitation, and particularly in the development of smart prisons, under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law. He said China is willing to strengthen exchanges with other countries to jointly improve prison management standards.

On the sidelines of the forum, Hu held bilateral meetings with the Russian Federation's Deputy Minister of Justice Vadim Fedorov and Deputy Prosecutor General Petr Gorodov.

Hu gave a comprehensive overview of China's progress in advancing the rule of law and the functions of China's Ministry of Justice (MOJ).

The discussions focused on deepening exchanges and cooperation between China's MOJ and Russia's Ministry of Justice and Prosecutor General's Office. In-depth exchanges were conducted on topics including administrative reconsideration, administrative law enforcement supervision, and legal publicity.

In addition, Hu held discussions with representatives of Chinese enterprises and law firms based in Russia. He listened to their opinions and suggestions on enhancing foreign-related legal services, introduced important measures taken by China's MOJ to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises overseas, and encouraged them to abide by local laws, uphold integrity in business operations, and pursue win-win cooperation.
