A national training program aimed at boosting the expertise of lawyers specializing in foreign-related intellectual property (IP) matters kicked off in Shenzhen, South China's Guangdong province, on June 17. Co-organized by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), this program will host over 300 IP lawyers from across the country in multiple sessions.

This training program is part of practical measures to implement the decisions and plans of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council concerning the development of IP strength and the establishment of a legal framework for foreign engagements. It is designed to accelerate the cultivation of a team of foreign-related IP lawyers with unwavering political integrity, exceptional professional competence, a solid understanding of international rules and expertise in international legal practice.

Focusing on the needs of foreign-related IP protection, the training will cover topics such as international dispute resolution, handling of overseas disputes, cross-border risk prevention and control and overseas patent application strategies. Renowned academics, experienced lawyers and experts from the World Intellectual Property Organization have been invited to lecture, with an emphasis on improving the service capabilities of lawyers in foreign-related IP to better serve and safeguard the nation's high-quality development and high-level opening-up.

Officials from the CNIPA and the MOJ's Bureau of Lawyers' Work, along with representatives from the departments of justice and IP administrations of Guangdong and Shenzhen, attended the opening ceremony.
